History

From 1734 to present

Hooray a son

It was in Middelburg on 4 June 1710 that Hendrik van Oordt, named after his father. After attending school in Schijndel, he first joined a grain buyer's office in Middelburg. And was then employed at the Secretariat at the Admiralty of Zeeland. In 1729, he left for Rotterdam where he joined the office of merchant Hermanus van der Lande and took the Oath of Office in Rotterdam.
In 1734, Hendrik and his father-in-law had bought two warehouses with yards on the Wolfshoek and Wijnstraat in Rotterdam. After demolishing the plots, they built a sugar refinery with house there.
In 1758, he had bought another sugar refinery with house and yard on the Scheepmakershaven, opening onto the Boompjes, in Rotterdam.
Both refineries were continuously expanded over the years through purchase.

Sugar portion packs

In 1835, Van Oordt has five sugar refineries. In 1935, Hendrik Willem Adriaan starts automated bagging of sugar.
Portion packs of sugar were born; a first in the Netherlands.
After a while, it is impossible to imagine life without the sugar sachet. Not only because it is handy and economical, but also because it adds something essential to the presentation of a cup of coffee or tea. Especially if you print it with a brand or a logo.
