From pharmacist to chocolate factory

Charles Delacre, a pharmacist by training, established his pharmacy near the Royal Palace in Brussels. At the time, chocolate was mainly prescribed as a tonic or medicine. But as chocolate was increasingly considered a confectionery, Charles Delacre decided to open a chocolate shop near Brussels' Grand Place. The shop met with immediate success.
